Douglas F.W. Pollard ---- This is the story about the Peetz Reel and its evolution. It also traces sport fishing for salmon off Vancouver Island. Douglas Pollard writes about how the Peetz reel and West Coast sport fishing go hand in hand. Boris C. Peetz, the inventor, a Russian-born silversmith, arrived in Victoria in the year 1911. In the 1920's he built his first reel and by 1935 the BC Peetz Manufacturing Company was in business selling fishing reels and swivels. Eventually the company diversified into tackle and whole-cane rods, but throughout the years, the Peetz reels have prevailed. The handmade wood and brass Peetz fishing reels have become North American classics. This interesting book tells the story of why Boris built the Peetz reel, the changes as the company expanded and grew. Bill Hooson, who became the owner of the company in 1977, continues the tradition, making quality Peetz products.
